La Junta Nursing Home Update

Friday, January 20th, 2017 Published By: Cynthia Nieb 0 Comments

Thank you to all who were able to attend the nursing home presentation today.  We had a great turnout with around 50 people showing up to listen to the presentation by Veritas Management Company and ask questions.  La Junta Economic Development would like to thank city council and the nursing home task force for all of the work that has been done so far on.

There were a lot of requests to have a second meeting or to video the meeting so we did.  If you were not able to attend the meeting, a recording of the meeting can be found here: La Junta Nursing Home Presentation

Background: Last March, City Council commissioned a market study for the need to have a nursing home in La Junta.  Pace Healthcare Consulting was brought in to analyze the market and determined that the city of La Junta could support a 54 bed facility.  City Council then assembeled a task force to find a potential operator of the facility.  The Nursing Home Task Force had previously sent out a request for proposal (RFP) to twelve companies soliciting feedback for a nursing home project in La Junta.  The RFP was also posted publicly.  The task force received four responses to the RFP and Veritas Management Company was selected as the task force’s top pick.  Veritas Management Company attended a special meeting on Friday, January 20th to discuss their plans and philosophy.

Next Steps: City Council will have a work session on Tuesday, January 24th to discuss next steps for the nursing home project.

Please direct any questions regarding the nursing home project to La Junta Economic Development Director Ryan Stevens at Ryan.Stevens@ojc.edu.
